Having been brought up in the 60's, Lunahsea is the sum of my hopes and dreams
from those turbulent times. For years I have carried memories of the hope, joy
and love in a special place near my heart. From time to time, I would take them
out and dust them off. Fragments of a beautiful time never to be repeated. I made a vow to myself that I would never forget the warmth and
compassion that so freely flowed . People shared...food, shelter,
enlightenment; it was all free for the asking. The line between the "haves"
and "have-nots" began to blur;communal societies sprouted up everywhere.
Within these societies democracy was real; not the illusion that we have
today.
What went wrong? There are many reasons, greed being just one of many.
People began to be dissatisfied with just getting by. They were burned out
on the hippie ideal of "love one another." The times were replaced by the
short-sighted, self-indulgent late 70's. There was no longer any talk of the
future; it was all about today. "What can I do for you" was replaced with
"What have you done for me, lately?" "Money is the root of all evil" was
replaced with "Money makes the world go 'round." Relationships were
measured in minutes, hours or maybe days, instead of years. Everything
was a matter of convenience.
The mid 80's brought us the term "Yuppie." The obsession with wealth and
the power that ultimately seems to come with it seemed to climax here. It has
taken another twenty years, but I believe the tide has begun to turn. In the last
five years there has been a resurgence in the things that made the 60's so
special. It begins and ends with respect. Respect for nature, animals and
one another. They are all equally important.
The last time I took my memories of the 60's from their special place, I
decided to share them with someone very special in my life. When I told him of my dreams, my experiences, he didn't laugh.
He had many of the same experiences, thoughts and dreams. He encouraged
me to make my dreams a reality. From that conversation both Lunahsea
and my love for Tommy were born.
Lunahsea is about love, faith in one another and hope for our future.
I want everyone who visits Lunahsea to feel that same sense of optimism
that we shared in the 60's.We have the power; we can change the world.
I have had the privilege of meeting so many incredible men and women
in the time since we opened. I am no longer disillusioned; they have
returned my faith to me. What an incredible gift !
Lunahsea has no clients or patrons, only friends. We support
diversity and a sense of community. Please stop in, have a cup
of tea and chat. We look forward to seeing you~
